The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow

✨ 4/5 stars ✨

This was an interesting story of “I’ll love you in every lifetime”. The more time travel that occurred, the more complex the story got, with different variations of the story and endings. I enjoyed the audiobook while also reading the physical book - I think it added to the experience. The audiobook narration performance was great!

... Read moreBeyond just my initial thoughts on 'The Everlasting,' I wanted to dive a little deeper into what makes this book by Alix E. Harrow so special and why it’s a brilliant pick for anyone looking for something truly unique. When I first saw the cover, with its striking golden sword-like design and the intricate wreath of colorful flowers and leaves encircling an enigmatic eye, I knew I was in for something magical. The BOTM logo was a good sign too! It’s such a beautiful piece of art that perfectly hints at the fantastical elements and the journey within. What truly captivated me about 'The Everlasting' wasn't just the 'I'll love you in every lifetime' premise, but how Alix E. Harrow intricately wove the time-travel narrative. It wasn't a straightforward journey, which made it all the more compelling. Every jump felt meaningful, adding layers to the characters and their evolving relationships across different eras. If you're a fan of stories that challenge your perception of time and destiny, this is definitely one to pick up. I found myself thinking about the different variations of the story and endings long after I'd turned the last page. For those who enjoyed this blend of fantasy, romance, and literary depth, you might also love some of Alix E. Harrow's other works, like 'The Ten Thousand Doors of January' or 'Once and Future Witches.' She has a distinct way of crafting worlds that feel both ancient and incredibly fresh. And speaking of 'must-read' books, if you're looking for other captivating reads that offer a similar emotional depth or unique narrative structure, I have a few personal recommendations. 'The Midnight Library' by Matt Haig, for instance, also plays with the idea of alternate lives and choices, offering a heartwarming yet thought-provoking experience. Or, if you're drawn to intricate family sagas and beautiful prose like 'Tom Lake' (which I've heard amazing things about and is on my TBR!), you might enjoy 'Pachinko' by Min Jin Lee for its sweeping historical narrative. For more speculative fiction with a strong romantic core, 'The House in the Cerulean Sea' by T.J. Klune is pure joy. These are the kinds of books that truly stick with you, making them ideal candidates for anyone crafting their own 'top reads' list. The complexity of 'The Everlasting' was part of its charm for me. If you ever find yourself tackling a book with a non-linear plot or intricate world-building, don't be afraid to take your time. Listening to the audiobook while following along in the physical copy, as I did, can really enhance the experience, helping to keep track of details and immerse you deeper into the story. It turned what could have been a challenging read into an absolute delight. Happy reading, fellow book lovers!
