... Read moreHey everyone! After seeing how much fun my recent Halloween clown photoshoot turned out, I wanted to share some behind-the-scenes thoughts and tips in case you're thinking of doing your own spooky session. It was such a blast bringing these creepy characters to life, and honestly, the planning is half the fun! First off, nailing the concept is key. We really leaned into the 'spooky clown' aesthetic, aiming for something both unsettling and visually striking. Think about what kind of vibe you want – super gory, more whimsical, or just plain eerie. For us, it was about creating a dark, mysterious atmosphere. Then comes location scouting. This is crucial for setting the mood. We looked for places that naturally felt a bit abandoned or forgotten. Finding a dark outdoor setting with gnarled trees, or even an old wooded area with wooden stairs, instantly elevates the creep factor. We even found some cool stone structures and a shadowy doorway that added so much character to our shots. These spots provided that perfect eerie setting without needing too many artificial props. For the costumes and makeup, we went all out with clown-themed outfits and dark outfits. The clown makeup was intricate – white face paint, black lips, and that little red heart on the cheek made a huge difference. Don't forget accessories! A quirky patterned hat, a menacing small axe, or even a dramatic striped umbrella can really complete the look and give you more to work with in your poses. Oh, and those platform boots weren't just for style, they added a bit of height and drama to some of the shots. Posing was where we got really creative. We experimented with everything from lying on our stomachs or backs on dark steps, to more dynamic shots like one of us appearing to float against a dark stone wall, or even hanging upside down! And yes, taking inspiration from some of the queries I've seen, we totally embraced the 'clown with tongue out' pose – it adds such an unexpected, slightly unhinged element that really sells the spooky vibe. Don't be afraid to try unconventional angles and expressions. Lastly, lighting is everything when you're going for a dark, spooky look. We mostly shot outdoors to capture natural, diffused light, but also played with shadows to enhance the eeriness. If you're shooting indoors or at night, consider using subtle spotlights or even just flashlights to create dramatic effects. Overall, it was an incredibly rewarding experience. If you're looking for a fun and creative way to celebrate Halloween or just love dark aesthetic photography, I highly recommend trying a spooky photoshoot yourself. You'd be amazed at what you can create with a little imagination and a few creepy costumes!

I LOVE the way the photos turn out with this camera!! The camera is a Fujifilm Finepix A345. I got it off eBay!  I only use it for photos because I’ve tried to shoot videos, but everything looks blurry. I’m not sure if that’s just the camera or user error LOL #lemon8partner #cameracoll
