honest review of 🇰🇷 gel polishes

on and off trying different brands of gel polishes so i thought i would pen my thoughts here ✨

note: i have small fingernails so smaller shorter brushes are my favourite!

1️⃣ mayour

many pigmented basic shades with an easy to handle brush

2️⃣ higel

not a well known brand, but this was my very first splurge many years ago. the brush is the smallest out of the lot. bought it because the colours are OPAQUE and even with just one (1) coat!!! unfortunately the brand does not have many collections and the availability of colours is more limited

3️⃣ yogomayo

loved this rainbow magnet gel SO much. the effect is beautiful. will be buying the others in the same collection!! (yet to try basic colours yet)

4️⃣ jin.B

the ever famous non wipe overlay crazy top gels!! bought the standard to use as a general top coat and the thick for overlays + attach gems

will be trying other popular brands like yogurt nails and jello jello soon ✨

... Read moreFrom my personal experience experimenting with Korean gel polishes, I found that choosing the right brush size is crucial, especially for those with smaller nails like me. Brands like Mayour and Higel offer pigmented formulas with self-leveling brushes that make application smooth and precise, minimizing mess and unevenness. I particularly appreciated Higel’s opacity with just one coat, though limited colour options can be a downside if you want more variety. One standout for me was the Yogomayo rainbow magnet gel—its buildable, eye-catching effect truly elevated my manicure. Magnet gels create a multidimensional shine that’s hard to achieve with regular polishes. I also found Jin.B’s non-wipe overlay top gels exceptionally versatile; the thick top coat is perfect for securing embellishments like gems, providing durability and a professional finish without needing additional clean-up. When exploring Korean gel brands, it’s worth noting that availability can vary, and some may require you to use your own brushes, which can be a bit fiddly until you get accustomed. However, the affordability and quality balance out these small inconveniences. If you’re considering trying other popular brands like Yogurt Nails or Jello Jello, I recommend testing the brush size and formula consistency to find what works best for your nail shape and size. Korean gel polishes tend to excel in pigmentation, finish, and innovative effects, making them a great choice for at-home gel manicures with professional results.
