I can’t say that there has been a time that I have ever concerned myself with whether “I looked like a doctor” nor was I trying to “dress to impress”. For me clothing and especially shoes have always been a form of creative expression and over time found that they even caused a shift in others… frequently hearing things like I love seeing your shoes because they make me smile… I dress to what makes me feel confident and project a positive energy not based on what I want others to respond with… as a teen and young adult frequently there could be sleepless nights thinking about will I look fat in this, will so and so make fun of this outfit, does it matter that it’s not a name brand… I am sure many can relate… I had this coat for a year before I wore it not because I didn’t love it but because I was trying to find the right occasion to wear it… then I remembered… #betheoccassion why wait to wear what you love…. Especially when it’s a perfect outfit to read sleep studies in! #dammgoodsleep

2/6 Edited to

... Read moreFrom personal experience, I’ve found that the way we dress is more than just about appearances; it’s a reflection of our inner confidence and mood. For example, there were many times I hesitated to wear certain pieces in my wardrobe because I thought I needed a special reason or worried about others’ opinions. But I learned that waiting for the 'perfect occasion' often means missing out on moments of joy and self-expression. Wearing something you love, like a favorite coat or striking shoes, can really shift your energy and how you interact with the world around you. This is especially true in professional settings where feeling confident can enhance your performance and outlook. I started choosing outfits based on how they made me feel rather than brands or trends, and noticed that it positively impacted not just me but people around me—often eliciting compliments or smiles that brighten the day. The advice captured in the image text—"Don't lose sleep worrying about what others might like! If you love it, wear it!"—resonates deeply. It’s a reminder that comfort and authenticity in style trump external approval. Such a perspective shift also aligns with mental wellness by reducing anxiety related to appearance and social pressure. So, whether you’re at work, running errands, or just relaxing, wearing what makes you happy is key. Fashion doesn’t have to be intimidating or bound by rigid rules. Instead, it’s a powerful tool for self-expression. Next time you find yourself hesitating to wear something you adore, remember that your style is uniquely yours—#betheoccasion and wear it proudly!
