The Gift We Forget to Open: Receiving
Merry Christmas, everyone!
I hope you received beautiful gifts today, and even more than that, I hope you’re learning how to receive.
Why do I say that?
Because many women (myself included, once upon a time) don’t truly know how to receive.
I’ve worked in a clothing store before, and now I’m back again, and I want to share something from behind the scenes.
When a man shops for the woman he loves, there is so much happening inside him: anxiety, excitement, pressure, the desire to get it just right: the perfect size, color, style, the “I hope she loves this” feeling.
Sometimes they nail it. Sometimes they don’t.
And that’s where receiving really begins.
Maybe the size isn’t perfect. Maybe the color isn’t your usual choice. Maybe the style isn’t something you would’ve picked for yourself.
Instead of rejection, what if we chose appreciation?
You can reinterpret it in your own style, tailor it to your body, adjust your fit over time if it feels a little small, and if it’s too big, enjoy playing with the possibilities of wearing it oversized. You can add accessories, experiment with it, or simply appreciate the intention and love behind it more than the object itself.
Because the real gift is the thought, the time, the care, the nervousness, the “I hope she smiles when she opens this.”
I recognize all of this so clearly because I used to be the woman who didn’t know how to receive.
Now?
Give me anything: not my style, not my color, not “perfect”, and I will make it work with a grateful heart.
When someone physically goes to a store, they invest time, energy, feelings, and love. Be conscious of that.
You don’t lose value by softening, receiving, appreciating.
You actually gain so much more.
I hope tomorrow I have no exchanges in my store, because women truly appreciate the effort and care their men put into choosing for them.
