What My Cat Taught Me About Change and Home

In a few weeks, I have to move again… and today I found myself thinking about Oppy and how many times we moved since 2020.

For a moment, I felt a little guilt.

Like maybe it was too much change for him.

But then another thought came in.

Oppy has actually lived more experiences than many cats ever will. Different homes, different views, new energies, new rhythms… and somehow he always adapts, finds his favorite corner, and makes every place feel safe.

Maybe he isn’t lacking stability.

Maybe he’s living a full life.

And maybe this is true for us too.

Sometimes what looks like constant change is actually life expanding us, teaching us how to feel at home within ourselves, no matter where we are.

He seems pretty happy about the journey.

... Read moreHaving moved multiple times myself, I’ve often reflected on how our environment shapes our sense of home and comfort. Observing Oppy's calm acceptance of new places reminds me how important it is to approach change not as disruption, but as opportunity. Each new home brought its own challenges—different layouts, unfamiliar neighborhoods, changing routines—but like Oppy, I learned to find my favorite spots and create small rituals that made each place feel safe and welcoming. This process helped me feel grounded amidst uncertainty. What’s fascinating about Oppy is his ability to adapt without losing his essence. He isn’t just tolerating change; he’s thriving in it. This taught me that stability is less about a fixed location and more about cultivating inner peace and flexibility. In my experience, embracing change with openness allows us to grow alongside it. We discover new perspectives, meet new people, and learn to carry our sense of home within ourselves. Oppy's journey serves as a gentle reminder that happiness and security don’t have to be tied to a single place—they can be created wherever life takes us. So, when facing a move or any shift in life, I try to emulate Oppy: exploring curious corners, enjoying new rhythms, and trusting that the essence of home travels with me. This mindset transforms change from something daunting into a rich, fulfilling adventure of continual self-discovery.
