my life saving toddler christmas tip! 🎁🎄

One of my favorite Christmas with kids tips 🎄✨

Let your toddler practice unwrapping gifts!

It makes Christmas morning so much smoother and turns the whole thing into a fun little activity. On the second slide I mentioned wrapping things you already own, try items of different sizes and shapes! Books, toy cars, cups, plushies… anything works. Let them try to figure it out on their own, but jump in when they need help.

While they unwrap you can use simple words like “unwrap,” “rip,” “tape,” “open,” “gift,” and “surprise.” It’s actually amazing for language development because they hear the same words over and over while doing the matching action.

You can use wrapping paper scraps or any paper you already have. It’s a great way to reuse something that would’ve been thrown out anyway, and toddlers truly don’t care what the paper looks like 😂

Here are some of the biggest benefits:

🎁 Builds fine motor skills – Tearing paper, peeling tape, and using both hands strengthens their little muscles.

🎁 Prevents overwhelm – They already know the “routine,” so Christmas morning feels familiar instead of chaotic.

🎁 Boosts confidence + independence – They get so proud when they can open something by themselves.

🎁 Teaches patience & taking turns – Practicing now helps them understand the flow of family gift opening.

🎁 Fun sensory play – Crinkly paper, textures, sounds… it’s all exciting for them.

🎁 Supports language development – Repetitive action + repetitive words = faster understanding.

It’s simple, free, and honestly so cute to watch ❤️🎄

Let me know if you try this with your little one!

... Read morePracticing unwrapping gifts with your toddler before Christmas can make the holiday experience smoother and more enjoyable for both you and your child. Using items you already own, like books, toy cars, plushies, or cups, wrapped in scraps of leftover wrapping paper, your toddler gets to experiment with unwrapping various sizes and shapes. This activity isn't just fun—it also has significant developmental benefits. Handling tape and tearing paper helps build fine motor skills by strengthening little muscles needed for daily tasks. The sensory experience of crinkly paper and different textures excites their curiosity and engagement. Repeatedly hearing simple words like "unwrap," "rip," "tape," "open," "gift," and "surprise" during the activity reinforces language development. Associating words with actions accelerates their understanding and vocabulary growth. Moreover, by practicing the gift-opening routine, toddlers gain confidence and independence as they master opening packages by themselves. This preparation prevents overwhelm on Christmas morning, turning it from chaotic to predictable and fun. They also learn patience and taking turns, which are essential social skills during family celebrations. Using wrapping paper scraps or any reusable paper also helps reduce waste, making this a sustainable way to involve your child. Toddlers rarely care about the aesthetics of the paper, so recycled materials work perfectly. Overall, this simple, free, and adorable practice turns Christmas gift opening into an educational and joyful sensory playtime, setting a happy tone for the holiday and creating lasting memories.
