From island vibes to winter wonders.

Moving from a warm, tropical climate to a place where winter truly means snow was a massive leap for me. I remember the day the first flakes started to fall; it wasn't just cold, it was an entirely new, breathtaking world! My old life was about constant sunshine and warm ocean breezes, much like what you'd expect from tropical places to visit in December. Now, I'm bundling up in layers I never knew existed, learning to walk on icy sidewalks, and discovering the surprising joy of a fresh blanket of snow. The adjustment has been an adventure in itself. Gone are the days of light dresses and flip-flops. My wardrobe now consists of thermal leggings, waterproof boots, and scarves that can double as blankets! I've had to learn about things like 'black ice' and how to properly layer without looking like a marshmallow. It’s a far cry from the balmy average temperature in Antigua in March I was so used to, but there’s a unique charm here. The air feels crisp and clean, and the silence after a heavy snowfall is absolutely magical. What I've loved most is embracing new activities. Sledding, building snowmen, and even just watching the snowflakes dance outside my window have become cherished moments. I used to think snow was just cold and inconvenient, but now I see the beauty in every sparkling landscape. It's a different kind of beauty than the vibrant greens and blues of my island home, but equally captivating. Sometimes, I do reminisce about the constant warmth of places like Coral Springs, wishing for a moment of that effortless sunshine, especially when the winter winds bite a little too hard. But this transition has taught me so much about adaptability and finding joy in unexpected places. While I still miss the feeling of sand between my toes and the consistent warmth that allowed for daily swims, I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. It’s a reminder that life is full of seasons, both literally and figuratively, and each one brings its own unique set of wonders. Learning to appreciate the coziness of an indoor fire on a snowy evening, or the excitement of waking up to a world transformed by white, has been a truly enriching journey. It makes me realize that while some people seek out warm winter places in the US for their escape, I'm finding my own kind of magic right here in the chilly embrace of winter wonderland.
