Why your body isn’t healing right now
If you feel like you’re doing “all the right things” but your body still isn’t healing, chronic stress may be keeping you stuck in survival mode. That cumulative “wear and tear” has a name: allostatic load.
When stress stays high, cortisol keeps prioritizing immediate survival—often at the expense of repair: immune changes (and slower healing), more inflammation, tissue breakdown, and disrupted blood sugar regulation.
This is why I care about balance, not just one number. DHEA-S can act like a protective counterweight with immune-supportive and anti-glucocorticoid effects, so the cortisol:DHEA-S ratio can be a more informative “stress load” snapshot than either hormone alone.
