“Rule of Three” for Sharing Career Accomplishments

All great stories are told in three parts, or three “acts.” As you build your story, consider a “beginning, middle, end,” or an “opening, content, closing” framework. In the middle portion of your framework, ensure there are “three examples,” or “three next steps.”

The Rule of Three can not only help you build a good story, but also convey your message to your audience without giving them too much or too little to absorb.

... Read moreWhen sharing career accomplishments, a structured approach can enhance the clarity and impact of your message. The Rule of Three is a powerful tool for storytelling, allowing you to break down complex ideas into manageable parts. Begin by identifying the problem or situation you faced in your career, followed by the middle section detailing '2-3 examples' showcasing your efforts, skills, and the actions taken. Conclude with a strong closing statement that emphasizes the overall impact these actions had on your career trajectory. Essentially, this method not only makes your message engaging but also memorable, as it aligns with how our brains naturally process information. Incorporate specific metrics or results where possible to further illustrate your achievements—this provides tangible proof of your capabilities. Remember, the goal is to communicate your professional growth effectively, ensuring that each component of your story resonates with your audience and highlights your suitability for future opportunities.
