From my own experience, the journey of uncovering and confronting internalized biases—particularly internalized white supremacy—requires courage and honesty. It's not about rejecting others, but rather about dismantling the harmful systems and mindsets we've unconsciously absorbed. I’ve learned that asking yourself, "Is this true to who I am?" instead of "Will this upset anyone?" is a powerful mindset shift. It prioritizes authenticity, which can be uncomfortable but ultimately freeing. When you own your truth, you’ll encounter resistance; people’s egos and defense mechanisms can react negatively because truth challenges their comfort zones. A quote that truly resonates with me is: "Truth doesn't please people, it pisses them off, speak your truth anyway." This highlights how standing firm in your beliefs is an act of bravery and self-respect. By calling out harmful behaviors and mindsets, you encourage others to reflect on their own biases too. On social platforms and communities, embracing this mindset encourages deeper conversations and genuine connections. It moves beyond performative actions and encourages honest self-reflection and growth. Together, we can build spaces where truth and justice prevail over conformity and silence.
