How to Make Your Small Bedroom Feel Bigger!
This bedroom is only 10×12, and I’m showing two totally different ways to style the same cover — because when space is limited, versatility matters. Using the same foundation but changing the styling instantly shifts the mood while keeping the room feeling open, cozy, and elevated.
The cover is incredibly soft, comes in multiple colors, and adds warmth without visual heaviness — which is key in a smaller bedroom.
Room details:
• Room size: 10×12
• Rug: 8×10
• Bed: Queen
• Mattress: 12” thick
• Bedding used: Queen size
Window treatments (this makes a huge difference in small rooms):
• Blinds: Color LN36 Beige
• Inside mount
• 100% blackout liner in white
• No edge binding
• Drapes: Natural color
• Six panels total (three per side)
• Each panel: 40”W × 120”L
Hanging the drapes high helps visually stretch the walls and makes the ceiling feel taller.
Wall details (spacing is everything):
• Artwork spaced 4.5” apart
• Artwork hung 9” above the headboard
• Mirrors: 58×18
• Mirrors hung 5” above the nightstands and 7” away from the headboard
• Ceiling height: 11 ft
• Picture lights positioned so the bottom edge aligns with the top of the mirrors for balance and symmetry
Pillow styling formula:
• Three 18×18 pillow covers
• Two lumbar pillows layered in front
• Mixed light tan and oatmeal tones to add depth and texture without overwhelming the bed
Keeping the palette soft allows the bed to feel layered but not bulky, which helps the room feel larger.
Lighting tip:
The chandelier is the 12-light style. It originally came with standard bulbs, but I swapped them for amber vintage Edison bulbs and it completely changed the feel of the room. Warm lighting softens edges, adds depth, and makes small spaces feel calmer and more expansive.
Takeaway:
Small bedrooms feel bigger when scale, spacing, and lighting are intentional …. not when more decor is added.
Save this if you’re working with a smaller bedroom and want it to feel cozy and elevated 🤍

When working with a small bedroom, choosing the right paint colors is crucial to opening up the space. Lighter shades like soft beiges, muted greys, or gentle pastels reflect more light and make the room appear larger than it actually is. I personally found that sticking to a neutral palette with subtle variations in tone keeps the room feeling airy without overwhelming it. Another way to maximize your small bedroom is to create a cozy sitting area. It might seem counterintuitive, but a well-planned corner with a compact chair or bench adds functionality and makes the room more inviting. Opting for multi-purpose furniture that can double as storage is also a smart move. Don’t overlook the power of strategic décor placement. For example, mirrors not only add depth but also bounce natural light around the room making it feel more spacious. Hanging them according to the spacing tips—such as keeping a consistent distance from furniture or other wall elements—maintains balance and draws the eye upward. Lighting dramatically affects ambiance too. Using warm amber vintage Edison bulbs softens the room’s edges and creates a calming effect, which can psychologically make your bedroom feel larger and cozier. Layered lighting from ceiling fixtures, bedside lamps, and picture lights plays a role in enhancing the space’s mood. Finally, avoid clutter. It's tempting to fill every empty corner, but in small bedrooms, less is more. Choosing accessories and bedding that add texture rather than bulk keeps the bed and overall room feeling light and inviting. This approach helps your small bedroom look elegantly styled and more expansive without adding unnecessary weight.
