🥩🇺🇸 "cultured meat" sparks U.S. food battle
Cultured meat, or Cultivated Meat, is the adoption of cells from animals into a controlled environment to be produced for food without raising and killing whole animals.
Support sees this technology as potentially reducing the use of space, water and the number of animals killed, as well as an alternative to food security. 🌱
But the term "greener" is inconclusive, because the actual impact depends on the energy source, raw materials and efficiency of the plant, especially when produced on an industrial scale.
Safety 🔬 The U.S. uses a joint regulatory system between the FDA and USDA, with the FDA monitoring cell culture ranges, and the USDA overseeing the processing, plant inspection, and labels of meat and poultry products.
However, as of July 2026, at least 7 states have enacted laws banning cultured meat, including Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska and Texas, while South Dakota has adopted temporary distribution suspension measures.
So this is not only the question of "can you eat?" but also business competition, transparency on labels, the future of farmers, and consumer rights.
💬 Do you think the state should "ban" it, or should it label it clearly and let the buyer make his own choice?
