Russia announced another expansion of the army's force rate framework, requiring that the army can have a maximum of about 2.426 million personnel positions, of which 1.535 million are troops.
The latest order increases the military strength framework by about 32,000 positions, from the level announced in March 2026, which is about 1.503 million, according to Russian authorities, partly related to the establishment of additional military construction units. 🪖
⚠️ But it must be separated that the figure of 1.535 million is the "legal force ceiling," not evidence that Russia has a full number of soldiers on duty, because some positions may still be available, under recruitment, or in support.
Since the start of the 2022 war in Ukraine, Russia has increased the size of its army several times, from recruitment of contract soldiers, conscription and formation of new units, to compensate for its strength and accommodate its expanding mission.
A large army doesn't just mean more people, because it also requires a huge budget for weapons, uniforms, accommodation, training, transportation and long-term support systems.
This is therefore both an increase in military capabilities and an economic burden that Russia will continue to bear.
