Build an App With Your Kid This Summer | The 4-Step Framework (No Code)
🪺 Save this for summer break — how to build an app with your kid in one afternoon. No code, no course, no $497 program. Just an afternoon and the right prompts.
Who this is for:
— Parents looking for screen time that isn’t passive
— Homeschoolers building real-world skills with their kids
— Teachers exploring AI tools for summer learning
— Grandparents who want to make something together
— Anyone with a kid who has “an idea”
The 4-step framework:
Step 1 — IDEA 💡
Have your kid finish three sentences:
— “I love it when ___”
— “I wish there was something that ___”
— “It would be cool if ___”
Their answers are your raw material.
Step 2 — VALIDATE 🔍
Before you build, paste the idea into Claude or ChatGPT. Ask it to push back. What would make this fun? What’s the smallest version that proves your kid would actually use it?
This step alone teaches your kid the most important thing: the AI is a tool that asks questions, not a magic box.
Step 3 — BUILD 🔧
The master prompt is on slide 6. Save it. Paste it into Lovable, Bolt, or v0 (all free).
Step 4 — REFINE ✨
Your kid sits in front of the first version. You watch silently. What they tap first, what frustrates them, what makes them smile — that’s your second draft.
The thing I want every parent to know:
Most kids have an idea they could turn into an app. Most parents tell themselves they can’t help.
You can.
The kids who get this experience — sitting next to a parent, telling a machine what to make, watching it appear, fixing it together — build a different relationship with technology than the kids who only consume it.
