I had this moment where I was just being real with God… feeling like I wasn’t praying or reading my Bible enough. But also knowing deep down that He knows my heart.

If you’re like me and you’ve felt the guilt creep in, let me remind you: He never left. He’s not looking for performance. He’s just saying, “Come close.”

Maybe you compare your prayer life to others, or feel guilty because you haven't opened your Bible in a few days. I've been there, wrestling with my inner critic telling me I need to 'do more' to be worthy or loved by God. But through my own journey, I've learned a profound truth: God seeks presence, not perfection. That feeling of 'not enough' often stems from our own expectations or external pressures, not from God's heart. He's not keeping a scorecard of your spiritual activities. Instead, He's extending a loving invitation to simply draw closer. This doesn't mean you need to dedicate hours to intense study or prayer if that's not where you are right now. True intimacy with God can be found in simple acts of connection throughout your day. For me, realizing this was a game-changer. I stopped trying to 'perform' and started looking for ways to integrate my faith into my everyday life. Here are a few things that have helped me feel like I'm genuinely connecting and experiencing growth with God, without the pressure: Start small with prayer: Instead of feeling overwhelmed by long prayers, I started having little conversations with God throughout the day. A quick 'Thank you, God' for a beautiful moment, or 'Help me with this, Lord' when facing a challenge. Even praying while showering or during my commute became a sacred space for me to come close to God. Let worship fill your space: Playing worship music while doing chores, working, or cooking can transform your environment into a sanctuary. It's a beautiful way to keep your heart turned towards Him, making even mundane tasks a life of worship. Reflect, don't just read: When I do open my Bible, I focus on understanding just one verse or passage, rather than feeling pressured to read a whole chapter. I ask myself, 'What is God trying to tell me here?' and journal my thoughts. This helps me absorb His word more deeply. Practice gratitude: Taking a moment each day to list 3-5 things I'm grateful for shifts my perspective from what I lack to what I have, and reminds me of God's constant blessing. Serve in small ways: Lending a listening ear to a friend, offering a kind word, or helping someone carry groceries can be acts of worship. It's about letting God's love flow through you. Remember, if your heart seeks God, you are already enough. That negative self-talk telling you you're failing is not from Him. He delights in your effort, your desire, and your willingness to simply show up as you are. You are not behind; you are becoming, and God is right there with you, smiling at every step of your journey. Let go of the guilt and embrace the beautiful reality that you are loved, accepted, and constantly being drawn closer by a God who desires your presence above all else.
