Part 11 | I miss her so much! ๐๏ธ
Losing someone you love, especially a mom, leaves such a profound void. When people talk about 'coping with grief,' it's not really about getting over it or forgetting them. For me, it truly means learning to carry that love and loss with you, day by day. It's a journey, not a destination, and it looks different for everyone. I often found myself wondering, 'Am I grieving correctly?' The truth is, there's no right or wrong way. Some days, the sadness feels overwhelming, like a physical ache in my chest. Other days, I find myself smiling at a memory, only for a wave of longing to wash over me. That's what coping with grief means โ embracing all these complex emotions without judgment. It's allowing yourself to cry when you need to, but also letting yourself laugh at a cherished memory. One of the biggest lessons I've learned about coping with grief is the importance of self-compassion. In the early days, I pushed myself to be 'strong,' but that just made everything harder. I've realized it's okay to not be okay. I've found comfort in simple things: Talking about her: Sharing stories with family and friends keeps her memory alive. Itโs hard sometimes, but it helps. Creating a special space: I have a small corner with some of her photos. It's a quiet place where I feel close to her. Journaling: Writing down my feelings, good and bad, has been incredibly therapeutic. It helps me process the jumble of emotions. Finding small joys: Even amidst the sorrow, I try to notice and appreciate little moments of beauty or peace, like a sunny morning or a comforting cup of tea. It doesn't mean I'm forgetting her, just that I'm also living. Allowing myself to rest: Grief is exhausting, both emotionally and physically. I've learned to listen to my body and give it the rest it needs. It's been a tough path, and I'm still on it. There are moments when the missing her feels unbearable, but then there are moments when I feel her presence in a different way, in the lessons she taught me, or the love she instilled. If you're also navigating this journey, know that your feelings are valid. Coping with grief is about honoring your loss, allowing yourself to feel, and finding your own unique way to integrate that experience into your life. Be kind to yourself, always.
