Part I: Do your cats wake you up very early in the morning? Dex and Felix are usually up and ready for first breakfast between 4:00 and 5:00am 😴 Don’t forget to watch Part II (posted immediately following this video) for some tips on how to manage this! ⏰
Having experienced early mornings with cats like Dex and Felix, I found that understanding their natural rhythms made a huge difference in managing my sleep schedule. Cats are crepuscular, which means they're instinctively most active during dawn and dusk, unlike humans who are diurnal and active during the day. This biological difference often causes cats to be wide awake while their owners want to sleep. One practical method I tried was to establish a feeding schedule that aligns with their activity. Feeding them right before my own bedtime helped keep them occupied and less likely to wake me in the early hours. Providing engaging toys and a comfortable environment also helped to channel their energy positively. It's important to respect their natural circadian rhythms rather than trying to completely change them. For example, blackout curtains can reduce early morning light that triggers activity, and automated feeders can prevent cats from associating human waking up with food. Ultimately, patience and consistency are key. By creating a routine that honors their instincts but also sets boundaries, it's possible to reduce those early wake-up calls and enjoy more restful nights alongside these loving companions.
