It’s not you it’s your 🩸 cycle

Did you know you can gain 3-5 lbs during your period!

I started weighting myself again but this time weekly & I was so shocked when I had suddenly gained weight even though I didn’t feel like I did. So I looked into it & we can gain weight during our period. These are my weigh in’s for the past 2 months especially during my period & after because I find it so interesting. I seem to gain 3lbs a week before my period starts & drop those 3lbs immediately after my period is over. So if you hop onto the scale & see you gained weight …maybe just maybe it’s your period.

March: 167.1—> 163.8

April: 165.1— 162.9

... Read moreTracking weight fluctuations across the menstrual cycle can be very enlightening, as I've personally experienced. About a week before my period starts, I've noticed my weight creeping up by a few pounds—similar to the 3 lbs weekly gain noted in March and April weigh-ins shown. This gain is mostly due to hormonal changes causing water retention, and it’s completely normal. What’s fascinating is the rapid drop in weight right after the period ends, often a result of the body releasing the retained water. Understanding this cycle helped me avoid unnecessary stress about these temporary changes. Aside from water retention, some women also experience increased appetite or cravings due to hormonal shifts, which can influence weight. However, it's important to remember that such fluctuations don’t represent true fat gain. If you’re trying to manage your weight or fitness, weighing yourself on a consistent schedule, like weekly—and noting where you are in your cycle—can provide a clearer picture rather than daily weighs that may vary wildly. Incorporating this knowledge has improved my approach to fitness and nutrition. For instance, I don’t beat myself up over minor weight increases before my period, realizing it’s a natural part of my body's rhythm. Instead, I focus on balanced nutrition and gentle exercise, mindful of how my body feels throughout my cycle. This approach fosters a more positive body image and less stress around weight management. Tracking menstrual cycle impacts offers valuable insights for women striving for healthier lifestyles without being misled by transient weight changes.
