iMessage v WhatsApp Which app is better for iPads?

I use both WhatsApp and iMessage on my phone, so now that WhatsApp is finally available on iPad too, I’ve been using both there as well 👀 But honestly, they each have their own pros and cons. iMessage is super smooth and built-in, but WhatsApp is still my go-to for group chats and voice notes. If you’re wondering which one’s better on iPad, I broke it all down in this post. Let me know which one you use more!

... Read moreFrom my experience, the biggest difference between iMessage and WhatsApp on iPad comes down to compatibility and features. iMessage is seamless if you’re entrenched in the Apple ecosystem since it works with your Apple ID and syncs perfectly across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The experience is smooth and supports FaceTime, Tapbacks, and even Memoji, which really enhances everyday chatting. However, iMessage only works with Apple users, so if you often message Android friends, you’re limited. On the other hand, WhatsApp’s official iPad app requires linking to your iPhone—it’s not standalone yet—which might be inconvenient for some. Also, you can’t make voice or video calls directly from the iPad, which was a bit frustrating for me. That said, WhatsApp shines with its strong international support, excellent group chat stability, and works cross-platform no matter if your contacts use Android or Apple devices. For group conversations or sending voice notes, I still find WhatsApp more practical. Regarding performance, some people have noticed lagging on WhatsApp for iPhone, which can affect iPad sync performance as well. I experienced slight lag switching between chats in WhatsApp on iPad, whereas iMessage felt smoother overall. So, if you prioritize fluidity on iPad, iMessage may be the better pick. Ultimately, using both apps depending on the context works best for me: iMessage for close friends and smooth Apple integration, and WhatsApp for international chats and bigger groups including non-iPhone users. The key is knowing what you value most—ecosystem harmony or cross-platform flexibility.
