How To DEEP CLEAN Your Keyboard! 🧼🫧
It's surprising how quickly keyboards get dirty... especially if you're like me and eat at your desk... 👀
It's a time consuming process, but very theraputic, especially if you pop on your fave playlist or youtuber!
Here's how to clean your keyboard the easy way!
Start by turning off your keyboard (you don't wanna be accidentally pressing things!) and grab your keycap remover. Most keyboards come with one of these, but if not, you can buy them for cheap on websites like Amazon! You should probably get one of these instead of trying to DIY one... you don't wanna damage your keyboard!
IF you pull out your keycap and switch together, dont worry! Gently tug them apart and place your switch back into your board. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU line up the pins properly - we don't want any broken pins!!!
Next, once all your keycaps are removed, turn your keyboard upside down and tap the back of it to loosen up hair, dirt etc... It's surprising how much falls out! Then, grab a brush and brush between the switches. Some keyboards also come with a brush, but not all do! You can use an old makeup brush for this - a fan or highlighter brush works well!
Once you've given your keyboard a good sweep, grab your cup of dish soap and water solution and dip a cotton swab in it. Pinch the end you dipped in between your finger and thumb to wring out excess water. WE DON'T WANT DRIPPY WATER NEAR AN ELECTRICAL ITEM!!! So make sure its DAMP not soaking wet.
Gently rub the swab back and forth, taking extra care to help lift the dirt and grime. Be sure to give each keycap a brush with the swab too because they also get very dirty!
Give it a few mins for your keyboard to fully dry out... again it shouldn't really be wet because we haven't used soaking cotton swabs... by the time you go over an area with the damp swab, the water solution should've evaporated!!!!
Then you can place your keycaps back on your keyboard and VOILA! You have a super nice and clean keyboard!
