Don’t get me wrong - I LOVE my job. But when I first started, I felt like getting my dream job so young meant it was a fragile circumstance. I was afraid of risks, unsure of growth, and while I figured it out along the way - I would have loved a nudge of reassurance. Dream jobs are still jobs at the end of the day and should be treated and considered as such. Make it work in your favor even when the rose colored glasses fade. #CapCut #dearyoungerme #jobs #growth
Starting a dream job feels exhilarating but also daunting, especially when you're young and eager to make a mark. From personal experience, one of the biggest challenges is managing expectations. It's important to remember that even your dream job will have its less exciting tasks and moments — this is perfectly normal. Accepting that not everything will be fun helps build resilience and a balanced perspective. Another valuable lesson is the power of communication. Sharing your work openly and actively participating in meetings, no matter how small they seem, can dramatically increase your visibility and growth opportunities. It’s how you connect and demonstrate your value. Building a portfolio might seem like a task for after college, but continuously saving work that you’re proud of allows you to track progress and showcase your skills when new opportunities arise. This approach is empowering and prepares you for freelance gigs or future roles. Networking is often underrated but incredibly impactful. Whether through casual ice breakers or virtual events, fostering relationships with colleagues opens doors for mentorship and collaboration. Remember, these moments of connection can turn into the funnest and most rewarding experiences at work. Lastly, even when doubts creep in or the initial excitement fades, maintain confidence in your abilities and the unique path you’re building. Career growth is a journey filled with learning and adapting — embracing this mindset helped me flourish in my role as a senior art director. Your dream job is still a job, but with the right attitude and strategies, it becomes a platform for growth and fulfillment.
