How to Hold Space for Others’ Shadows

Holding space doesn’t mean absorbing someone else’s pain. 🌑

It means being a compassionate witness while staying grounded in your own energy.

You don’t have to carry what isn’t yours — you can protect yourself and still show up with love.

Do you struggle more with holding space or protecting your energy?#HoldingSpace #EnergyProtection #ShadowWork #TheDivineAcademy #DivineBae

... Read moreHey beautiful souls! ✨ I wanted to dive a little deeper into something I've learned on my own spiritual journey: how crucial it is to truly protect your space when you're engaging in deep, meaningful conversations, especially when it comes to supporting others through their *shadow work spirituality*. For a long time, I thought being a good friend or spiritual confidante meant absorbing every ounce of their pain, but that just left me feeling completely drained and often resentful. Can anyone relate? One of the biggest shifts for me in my shadow work spirituality practice was realizing that compassion doesn't mean self-sacrifice. It means offering a steady, loving presence without losing yourself in someone else's storm. This is where creating personal rituals for energy protection comes in. Before I even step into a deep conversation, I make sure to ground myself. This could be as simple as taking a few deep breaths, imagining roots growing from my feet into the earth, or even just stepping outside for a moment to connect with nature. This helps me create a strong foundation, so I’m not easily swayed by external energies. The OCR mentioned to "ground before + after deep conversations," and I can't stress enough how vital this is. Afterward, I have another little ritual to release anything that isn't mine. Sometimes it's a quick visualization of a cleansing light washing over me, or even a symbolic act like washing my hands and imagining I'm washing away any lingering energy. These aren't complex *shadow work spells*, but simple, intentional acts that signal to my subconscious that I'm reclaiming my energetic space. Remember that powerful insight: 'Their shadows are not your responsibility.' This isn't about being uncaring; it's about empowerment – for both you and the other person. You're giving them the space to own their journey, rather than you carrying it for them. Another key aspect of protecting my space is learning to say 'no' when my capacity is low. It's tough, especially for empaths, but it's an act of self-love and integrity. If you're feeling depleted, you can't genuinely hold space for anyone. It's okay to set boundaries. You can say, 'I'd love to support you, but I only have the capacity for a short chat right now' or 'Let's connect tomorrow when I can give you my full attention.' As the OCR noted, 'say no when you don't have capacity.' These boundaries aren't walls; they're energetic filters that allow you to show up authentically. Finally, consider incorporating small, daily shadow work rituals into your routine to keep your energy field robust. This could be journaling about your own triggers after a challenging interaction, meditating to clear your mind, or even spending time in solitude to recharge. It’s about being proactive, not just reactive, in managing your energetic health. By doing so, you're not just surviving, you're thriving, and you can offer truly powerful, grounded support to others from a place of abundance, not depletion. Drop a comment if you have any favorite grounding techniques!
