After 26, I Only Do Four Things

On my 26th birthday, I made one promise to myself:

From now on, I only choose myself.

I’ve been through long periods of burnout, sudden emotional crashes, nights of spiraling thoughts and endless self-doubt. I’ve had those sleepless hours where your mind feels louder than the world outside.

In the end, the only thing that healed me was four simple words:

Focus on yourself.

So after turning 26, I only do four things:

① I look only at myself

I’m more certain than ever: to raise your energy, you must pull your attention back inward.

For me, that means three things—

• Don’t care about anyone’s opinions

• Don’t compare with anyone

• Don’t pre-set outcomes

The more I detach from noise, the more I return to myself.

② I never stop learning

I made a rule: every year, learn a new skill or enter a new field.

Learning isn’t just knowledge—starting a new hobby, exploring a new perspective, or opening a new door also counts.

The older I get, the more essential learning becomes.

③ I choose myself, unconditionally

Unconditionally trusting my abilities.

Unconditionally following my intuition.

No compromising, no settling, no choosing based on others’ expectations.

Breaking free from all the “shoulds” and finally becoming who I want to be.

④ I put my emotions and experiences first

My only standard for how I spend my time is:

How does it make me feel right now?

If I’m immersed and genuinely happy, it’s never a waste — in fact, that’s what living well truly feels like.

This life… the person who stays with me the longest is myself.

So eating well, sleeping well, and staying joyful matters more than anything.

When my insomnia was at its worst, I used to think: “If I could just sleep for a while, I would ask for nothing else.”

To sleep better, I moved to a quieter place and chose gentler companions—

one of them is my moonstone bracelet.

Every night, touching it feels like being wrapped in soft moonlight.

Falling asleep no longer feels like a battle.

It brings me a sense of calm that lasts through the night.

We spend one-third of our lives in bed.

When you sleep well, you live well.

Now, I only care about four things:

my emotions, my growth, my choices, and my experiences.

Stay aligned with yourself.

Keep learning.

Stay joyful.

When the mind and body upgrade, life flows naturally.

... Read moreTurning 26 often feels like a pivotal moment where many seek to redefine their priorities and relationships, especially with themselves. The four practices outlined in this article — focusing inward, committing to lifelong learning, choosing yourself unconditionally, and prioritizing emotions and experiences — are powerful pillars for enhancing well-being and fulfillment. Focusing on yourself is more than a mindset; it’s a vital strategy for raising your energy and enhancing mental clarity. By detaching from external opinions, avoiding comparisons, and not pre-setting outcomes, you create mental space to reconnect with your true self. This inward attention helps in reducing anxiety and frees you from the exhausting cycle of seeking validation, allowing authentic growth. Never stopping learning is a commitment that keeps your mind agile and your spirit curious. Whether it’s acquiring a new skill, exploring creative hobbies, or embracing unfamiliar perspectives, continual learning stimulates personal evolution. This approach not only enriches your intellect but can also open unexpected doors to opportunity and joy. Choosing yourself unconditionally means honoring your intuition and trusting your inner voice above societal expectations or self-imposed 'shoulds.' It’s about breaking free from compromise and embracing authenticity. This practice fosters self-respect and paves the way to a more fulfilling life aligned with your deepest values. Prioritizing your emotions and experiences ensures that your daily choices nurture your happiness and mental health. Living by the question "How does this make me feel right now?" centers your life around joy and emotional wellness. This perspective encourages activities that truly enrich your spirit and diminish feelings of burnout or dissatisfaction. Sleep, as mentioned with the moonstone bracelet metaphor, plays an integral role in this holistic self-care. Good sleep propels emotional balance, cognitive function, and physical health. Creating a calm sleeping environment and incorporating soothing rituals like wearing a moonstone bracelet can ease insomnia and promote restful nights, underscoring the profound connection between emotional care and physical well-being. In essence, these four tenets reflect a holistic approach to personal growth and healing. Embracing them can help anyone experiencing burnout, self-doubt, or emotional turmoil to regain control, foster resilience, and cultivate a joyful and balanced life. Remember, the longest relationship you will ever have is the one with yourself—invest in it deeply and lovingly.
