I went through one of the scariest nights of my life as a dog parent 💔🐶
My boy somehow got into the garage and tore open an old pack of sugar-free gum. At first, I didn’t think much of it… until I googled the ingredients and saw the word xylitol. My stomach dropped. Xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs — it can cause a massive drop in blood sugar, seizures, liver failure, and even death in just a few hours.
Minutes later, I noticed him trembling and drooling. That’s when panic hit. I immediately called poison control, and the first thing they asked was: “Do you have activated charcoal?”
By pure luck, I did. A while back I saw a vet on TikTok talking about Pawmergency Activated Charcoal and ordered it on Amazon to keep in the fridge. I quickly dispensed the right amount and then rushed him straight to the vet.
The vet told me the charcoal most likely saved his life — it works by binding the toxins in the stomach before they get absorbed into the bloodstream. They even said they wished more dog owners had it ready at home.
I can’t stop thinking how close I came to losing him. If you’re a dog parent, please don’t wait for a nightmare like this to happen. Activated charcoal is safe, simple, and could be the one thing standing between your dog and tragedy. ❤️🐾
