why I love being a nurse

Nursing has given me the freedom to design a life that aligns with my passions—both inside and outside the hospital. The flexibility of my career allows me to travel as often as I want, whether it’s taking multiple short trips in a month or planning an extended getaway. With just three shifts off, I can have 21 days to explore the world, recharge, and experience new cultures. This balance between a demanding career and the ability to step away and live fully is something I deeply value.

Beyond flexibility, nursing has profoundly shaped my outlook on life. Working in the ER, I see firsthand how quickly life can change. I’ve cared for patients who were healthy one moment and critically ill the next, and I’ve witnessed heartbreaking losses that remind me just how fragile life is. These experiences push me to live with intention—to never take a single moment for granted and to make the most of every day. Whether it’s traveling, pursuing my fitness goals, or simply spending quality time with loved ones, nursing has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the present.

My career has also reinforced the importance of taking care of my own health. I see the effects of chronic illness, poor lifestyle choices, and preventable diseases every day, and I’ve learned that I have far more control over my well-being than I once thought. By prioritizing nutrition, strength, and endurance, I not only improve my own quality of life but also ensure that I can show up as my best self for my patients. In a high-stakes, fast-paced environment, being physically strong and mentally sharp isn’t just beneficial—it’s necessary. My commitment to fitness isn’t just about me; it’s about being the kind of nurse my patients deserve.

Nursing is more than a career for me—it’s a constant reminder to live fully, take care of myself, and embrace the opportunities that life offers ✨
