Tabs that I have open as an emergency nurse

Let’s go through tabs that I keep open during my 12 hour shift as an emergency nurse.

Must haves:

- charting system: Epic, Cerner ect…

- Lexicomp: this allows me to look up what medications are compatible ( life savor when I have a icu (critical) patient that needs multiple medications)

- Google: I google everything that I’m slightly unsure about. For example medication side effects that I don’t know, certain diagnosis, or even the meaning behind some elevated labs.

Fun tabs:

- Zillow : I love looking at houses that I cannot afford 😅

- Google flights: My hobby is traveling so I am always looking for cheap tickets.

... Read moreAs an emergency nurse, managing time effectively is crucial, and open tabs can significantly streamline your workflow. Charting systems like Epic and Cerner are indispensable for maintaining patient records and tracking care. Lexicomp stands out as a vital resource for medication compatibility, ensuring that you can quickly find crucial information when dealing with critical patients requiring multiple medications. It's also essential to utilize general resources like Google. It allows you to clarify uncertainties, whether it's understanding side effects of unfamiliar medications, deciphering specific diagnoses, or interpreting elevated lab results. This approach not only enhances patient care but also supports ongoing learning and confidence in clinical decisions. During downtime or breaks, it’s also valuable to keep tabs that allow for a bit of relaxation. Zillow can provide a fun distraction by exploring homes, while Google Flights can inspire future travel plans. Balancing intense work hours with enjoyable activities can lead to a more fulfilling nursing experience. Stay updated with the latest in nursing by following topics like #lemon8nurse and #nurse, which can connect you with a community of fellow professionals sharing experiences and advice.
