Writing my first novel!

I'm really excited to actually make a passion of mine reality! I've been planning this book since April this year and I'm finally in the drafting stages. 10 chapters in and I plan on making it an episodic type of uploading on Royal Road. And once I write the last chapter, I'll be making moves to get it published.

If you'd like to support a new aspiring author, please take a read when the first 2 chapters are live on my Royal Road page 12/26! royalroad.com/profile/602404. Or search Malii.

... Read moreIt's such a thrilling adventure starting to write your very first novel, isn't it? As someone currently writing their first novel, I've realized there are so many things I wish I knew when I first started dreaming up this story. For all of you aspiring authors out there, or just curious about how to write a novel for beginners, I wanted to share some insights from my journey so far. One of the biggest hurdles is often just knowing how to write a story from scratch. My advice? Don't wait for a perfect idea. Start with a tiny spark – a character, a peculiar setting, or even just a single 'what if' question. To write creative stories, I find it helps to brainstorm widely, jotting down every wild idea without judgment. Think about the core conflict or emotion you want to explore. Sometimes, watching movies, reading books, or even just people-watching can give you invaluable inspiration. Don't be afraid to combine seemingly unrelated ideas; that's where true originality often lies. Once you have a general idea, figuring out how to write a story plot becomes the next big step. I'm a bit of a 'plotter' myself, meaning I like to have a general roadmap before diving in. For beginners, even a simple outline can be a game-changer. You don't need to know every single twist and turn, but having key milestones—like your protagonist's goal, the main obstacles, and a rough idea of the ending—can keep you from getting lost. Think about the classic story arc: beginning, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. This structure can guide you even as you let your creativity flow. When you're ready to tackle that momentous chapter 1 novel, remember its purpose is to hook your reader and introduce your world and main character. Don't feel pressured to explain everything upfront. Focus on an engaging opening scene that immediately draws them in. As for how to narrate a story, consider your point of view (first-person, third-person limited, omniscient) and stick with it consistently in the early stages. Your narrative voice is what will truly make your story unique. And who are you writing for? Understanding your audience in writing definition is crucial. Are you aiming for young adults, fantasy enthusiasts, or literary fiction readers? Knowing your audience helps you tailor your language, themes, and pacing. This isn't about compromising your vision, but about effectively communicating it to the right people. Finally, don't get bogged down by perfectionism in your first draft. The most important thing is to get the story down. This is the stage where you're simply telling the story to yourself. For key words for story writing, think about vivid verbs and sensory details that make your reader feel like they're right there. The real magic of refining comes in the editing process. So, embrace the messiness, celebrate every word, and keep pushing forward on your incredible journey to write a story book that is uniquely yours!
