Comment BARRIER and I'll send you my favorite barrier-supporting products🧴   A lot of us were taught that exfoliation = better skin. In reality, repeated use of harsh scrubs and stripping products can lead to micro tears, chronic inflammation, and a weakened skin barrier.   Once that barrier is compromised, you’ll notice redness, dryness, sensitivity, and breakouts.   The solution isn’t doing more. It’s repairing what’s been damaged.   #dermatologist #skinbarrierrepair #sensitiveskin

... Read moreFrom my personal skincare journey, I realized that aggressive exfoliation, which many of us believed was essential for glowing skin, often caused more harm than good. Using scrubs with harsh particles or astringents tends to strip the skin's natural oils and can create micro tears, leading to inflammation and a compromised skin barrier. This results in symptoms like dryness, redness, and even unexpected breakouts. Incorporating a gentle cleanser as the first step is key. For example, La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser is excellent because it cleans without stripping your skin’s moisture. I've also found that products with barrier-repairing ingredients such as ceramides, niacinamide, squalane, and fatty acids make a huge difference in restoring skin integrity. These ingredients help rebuild the protective layer your skin naturally needs. You can still exfoliate, but it needs to be done safely and sparingly. Instead of harsh scrubs, I switched to a toner containing dermatologically developed 2% salicylic acid along with azelaic acid, niacinamide, and zinc. This helps clear pores gently while soothing and hydrating skin. Moisturizing with nourishing creams like CeraVe’s Moisturizing Cream, which contains MVE technology and ceramides, provides lasting hydration and aids skin barrier maintenance. Think of skincare as rehabilitation for your skin barrier: the simpler and gentler the routine, the better the long-term results. It’s about repairing damage and not overdoing treatments—but nurturing your skin daily with the right ingredients and habits to help it recover and thrive.
