Rating My Job in Family Entertainment

I currently work in customer engagement for a children’s entertainment company! I do administrative work, answer phone calls, and handle social media.

When I first got hired, I was PUMPED thinking there was no way this would be as stressful as my previous administrative jobs (working in manufacturing and call centers). There’s definitely pros and cons, but I was wrong!

In children’s entertainment, the children are so important; however, your customers are their parents/legal guardians. You want the kids to have fun and you want the parents to be satisfied with their child’s experience. When the facility, the fun, or the food doesn’t live up to expectations, parents aren’t just upset on their own behalf. They are livid for their children, which often has harsher consequences.

People get annoyed with me as a person when our prices aren’t ideal for their budget or when their child gets hurt. I’ve had people verbally rip into me because they disagreed with our company policies and they wanted me to address their issues personally.

All in all, I’d give it a 6/10. Not miserable, but not fun like some might think either.

I turned in my two week notice a little over a week. It’s nothing against the job itself, I just am looking to pursue a different path forward (maybe one that involves answering less phone calls). I’m looking forward to my next opportunity!

Have you ever considered working in family entertainment? I’d love to answer any questions you have!

... Read moreWorking in family entertainment is a unique yet challenging experience that often goes unnoticed. This industry blends fun for children with the serious concerns of their parents. While it can be an exciting place to work, it's crucial to manage expectations effectively. One significant aspect is customer relationships. In family entertainment, children are the primary focus, but their parents are the ultimate clients. Satisfaction levels are often determined by the kids' experiences and the parents' perspectives. Any imperfection in the service, be it high prices or safety concerns, can lead to intense scrutiny from guardians. Additionally, this field requires adept conflict resolution skills. The ability to remain calm under pressure is invaluable, especially when dealing with unhappy customers who have expectations based on the promise of a memorable experience for their children. Insights into successful strategies for maintaining customer satisfaction can be valuable for those looking to enter the industry. Exploring job roles in family entertainment can also illuminate various career paths. Beyond customer engagement, opportunities like event planning, marketing, and entertainment management exist. Each role presents different challenges and rewards, making it an attractive option for many. If you're contemplating this career, research is key. Connecting with professionals in the field can provide guidance and firsthand accounts of the job's intricacies. Whether you're just starting or looking to switch roles, understanding the dynamics of family entertainment will help in navigating your career choices.
