A few days ago, I caught myself about to self-sabotage.
The old version of me tried to creep back in. And I had to stop, look in the mirror, and say, “No, we used to do that. We did that for a long time. But we’re done with that.”
Self-sabotage isn’t weakness. It’s self-protection. It’s your brain’s way of trying to keep you safe from discomfort, unfamiliarity, or potential rejection.
That means your nervous system is trying to protect you from what it thinks is danger.
That’s why awareness is so powerful. Healing doesn’t mean those thoughts or behaviors disappear.
It means you’ve developed the ability to pause, notice what’s happening, and choose differently.
That’s metacognition — thinking about your thinking, observing your emotions and patterns in real time, and responding with intention instead of reaction.
One of my clients told me she also caught herself in a spiral of old thoughts and heard my voice reminding her to pause. A
I said “That’s amazing!”. However, the goal isn’t for you to hear my voice forever. It’s for you to start hearing your own.
That’s the beauty of healing.
Awareness. Intention. Becoming.
When was the last time you caught yourself going down the rabbit hole and had to stop?👇🏾
