It’s been 80 years since I’ve touched a ⛽️ 😳
Do I still know how to do it yall ⁉️
🫣 pray for me 🫠
After being away from pumping gas for what feels like a lifetime—80 years, to be exact—I was curious (and nervous) to see if I still had the skills. It felt surreal holding that gas pump again, like reconnecting with a long-forgotten part of my past. The first few moments were awkward; I had to remind myself of the steps and safety precautions involved. Handling fuel requires attentiveness and care, and I definitely took the time to ensure everything was done correctly. What stood out to me was how much the service station environment has changed over the decades. Modern pumps have more digital interfaces and safety features that weren’t around before, which made me appreciate the technology upgrades. However, the essence of the job—the human element of helping customers and making sure their vehicles are fueled safely—remains the same. Interestingly, while dealing with this return to an old skill, an image from the station flashed in my mind: a sign reading "Action Required" alongside a humorous personal reflection captured by OCR as "Pretty sure, I just got divorced." Moments like these keep the experience real and remind us that life’s twists and turns often bring us back to unexpected places. For anyone considering reviving an old skill or returning to a familiar job after many years, my advice is to approach it with an open mind and patience. It’s okay to feel rusty—you’ll likely rediscover your competence more quickly than you expect. Plus, embracing the changes over time can make the journey more enriching. I’m curious—have you ever stepped back into a role or hobby you left decades ago? How did you find the experience?
