It’s surgery day!!! 🫶🏻🫢
Wow, what a day! Thinking back to my 'Surgery Day', it truly felt like a mix of emotions I hadn't anticipated. If you're here because your own surgery day is approaching, or you're just curious about the experience, I wanted to share a deeper dive into what it was really like for me. The night before, I barely slept. My mind was racing with a million questions and 'what ifs'. I tried to focus on all the pre-op instructions, like fasting and showering with that special soap. Getting to the hospital early in the morning felt surreal. The air was thick with a quiet anticipation, and I remember signing a stack of papers, my hand feeling a bit shaky. Once I was in pre-op, things started moving quickly. A nurse took my vitals, asked a lot of questions, and helped me change into the hospital gown. It's funny how something so simple can make it all feel so real. Then came the IV – not my favorite part, but the nurses were so gentle and reassuring. I met with the anesthesiologist, who explained everything clearly, which really helped ease some of my nerves. The surgeon also popped in to say hello and mark the surgical site, which was a reassuring final check. I remember the feeling of being wheeled down the hallway, looking up at the ceiling lights passing by. It was a strange mix of fear and an odd sense of calm, knowing that soon, this part of my journey would be over. The last thing I remember before drifting off was the kind words of the operating room staff. Waking up in recovery was a bit disorienting. There was some discomfort, but the nurses were right there, asking about my pain level and giving me medication. It’s amazing how quickly they respond to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. The first few hours were a haze, but gradually, I started to feel more aware, and the relief washed over me that it was all done. My biggest tip for anyone facing their own 'Surgery Day' is to prepare as much as you can, but also be kind to yourself. Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if they seem silly. Lean on your support system – family and friends were invaluable for me, even just for a comforting text. And remember, it’s okay to feel nervous; it’s a big deal! Take it one step at a time, and focus on the recovery ahead. Wishing you all the best on your own journey!
