BBQ season

There is nothing quite like a backyard BBQ to bring the family together. For this cookout, I wanted to create a healthy and flavorful meal using fresh ingredients. These images from tonight show how we made a perfectly seasoned grilled tilapia alongside charred, tender and seasoned Brussels sprouts and corn on the cob.

Getting the grill to the perfect temp of 400 degrees is key for getting those beautiful grill marks. My trick for the tilapia is adding lemon and Bass Pro Shop fish seasoning while grilling to keep it moist. The smokiness from the grill really elevates the food. I usually toss the Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a pinch of smoked paprika before throwing them on the grill for a perfectly charred and tender side. Corn on the cob benefits from a quick char as well—sometimes I add a little butter and chili powder for a smoky, spicy kick. Another tip I’d recommend is prepping ingredients to the same thickness so everything grills evenly. For those looking for alternatives, other fish varieties such as salmon or mahi-mahi also work well with similar seasonings. If you want to add a healthy dip or sauce, consider a homemade yogurt-based herb sauce or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to keep it light. Experimenting with these simple grilling ideas has made my backyard cookouts flawless and fun. What I enjoy most is how the grill imparts a unique smokiness that elevates everyday meals. If you’re just starting with grilling fish or veggies, keep the heat consistent and avoid flipping too often, which helps retain moisture and flavor. BBQ season is truly an invitation to explore easy, nutritious dishes that bring everyone together around the fire.
