🌳 Story: The Year of the Little Tree

Spring

Once upon a time, there was a little tree.

In the spring, tiny buds grew on its branches.

Soon, pink and white flowers began to bloom.

The little tree felt fresh and new. 🌸

Summer

Then came summer.

The sun shined warm and bright. ☀️The tree’s branches filled with green, leafy shade.

The little tree stood tall and strong. 🌳

Fall

Next came fall. 🍂

The green leaves turned orange, yellow, and red.

One by one, the leaves swirled to the ground.

The little tree felt cozy and ready to rest.

Winter

Finally, winter arrived. ❄️The tree’s branches were bare.

Snowflakes fell and made the tree sparkle white.

The little tree was quiet, waiting for spring to come again.

And so, the year went round and round…

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter…

The little tree grew through them all. 🌸☀️🍂❄️

... Read moreTeaching young children about the four seasons is a wonderful opportunity to blend education with fun through multisensory activities that promote understanding and curiosity. Beyond the story "The Year of the Little Tree," which beautifully illustrates the cyclical nature of seasons through relatable imagery, educators and parents can enrich lessons with interactive methods. For instance, the "Season Motions" warm-up engages kids by mimicking seasonal behaviors such as stretching in the summer sun or shivering in winter, helping them physically connect to each season. Visual aids like the "Season Wheel Craft" allow children to color and design a paper circle divided into four parts that represent each season with flowers, sun, leaves, and snowflakes. Incorporating an arrow spinner lets children actively point to the current season, boosting engagement and reinforcing sequencing skills. Sorting activities using cards with clothing or nature items such as boots, bathing suits, rakes, and snowflakes encourage critical thinking as children guess which items belong to each season. This reinforces their ability to associate weather changes with appropriate clothing and natural phenomena. Using a wrap-up song like "Seasons of the Year" caps the session with a rhythmic recap of key seasonal traits, aiding memory through melody. Importantly, integrating these activities supports early STEM skills by honing observation, categorization, and sequencing abilities crucial for scientific thinking. Through this hands-on approach, preschoolers gain not only knowledge of seasonal weather, clothing, and natural changes but also develop a deeper observational awareness of the world around them. These lively and interactive lesson plans provide a foundation for lifelong learning while making early science enjoyable and meaningful.
