My transformation from broke to self-made
I became clinically depressed while in college and had to pull back for a year in order not to tank my grades.
I didn’t have a solid plan back then and just wanted to graduate while still having time to socialize.
But the reality of going from inner city public school, to private hard to get into University in the North East is that you are not as prepared academically (scholarship or not).
I was overwhelmed and became depressed. I stepped back and started waitressing in a nursing home to find something to do with my time.
I was embarrassed and didn’t tell anyone from my family, as the smart bookworm that my parents had put all their hopes into as immigrants, that narrative wasn’t going to land well.
That was humbling experience and I learned a lot from that time in my life.
Despite the confusion and the dark cloud I felt over me, I fully embraced that experience.
I got my mental health back in order.
Then, I went back and finished school.
The fact that I get to come back as this successful entrepreneur version of myself still doesn’t feel real to me.
But even back then, I knew that I could achieve more should I put my mind to it —> that’s why even through my depressed haze, I kept pushing forward.
The result is that I’m now living a life where I get to reap the rewards of my dedication.
Until recently, I felt shame about this time in my life and had only shared this with my husband.
But I am as proud of that 20 year old version of my self , as I am of myself now!
Because I was brave enough then to not give up, even when it felt like my inner world was falling apart and like life wasn’t worth it anymore.
So today, I’m here to celebrate you! Past, Present and Future….especially the times when you haven’t always felt like a winner.
I’M HERE TO GUIDE YOU IN NOT GIVING UP, NO MATTER WHAT.
Believe me, things will work out.
If I can do it, so can you!
