My culinary discoveries from Portneuf.
I spent a few days of vacation in the Portneuf region. So, in addition to visiting family members and relaxing, I took the opportunity to visit some shops and here are my food finds.
J'ai passé quelques jours de vacances dans la région de Portneuf. Donc, en plus de visiter des membres de ma famille et de relaxer, j'en ai profiter pour visiter quelques commerces et voici mes trouvailles alimentaires.
During my visit to Portneuf, I was pleasantly surprised by the rich variety of artisanal products available throughout the region. One highlight was purchasing an eggplant directly from Almana farm in Saint-Alban, which made me appreciate the freshness and quality of locally grown produce. I also discovered dehydrated pollen from the same farm, a unique item perfect for adding natural sweetness and nutrition to recipes. The experience of indulging in gelato at Le Chalet dairy in Saint-Narcisse was a particular delight. Although the weather was around 18 degrees Celsius, I couldn't resist trying flavors like salted caramel, piña colada, coffee, and chocolate hazelnut—all incredibly creamy and rich in taste. These frozen treats showcased the artisanal craftsmanship typical of local dairy products. Portneuf’s surroundings offer a charming countryside vibe, with many farms dotting the landscape near Saint-Ubalde. I also enjoyed tasting pastries from Mikatri bakery, such as the choco-cranberry twists and cheese bread, which paired wonderfully with the region’s fresh ingredients. A visit to Miel & Co in Portneuf revealed a fascinating world of honey varieties, including smoked and spicy honey—perfect for experimenting in the kitchen or enhancing cheeses and desserts. Visiting the beekeeper after purchasing pollen gave me a deeper appreciation for the dedication behind these natural products. Beer enthusiasts will find delight in microbreweries like La Shed in Donnacona and A Chacun Sa Bière in Saint-Marc-des-Carrières. Unique brews such as Su'a Kölsch, raspberry white beer, and Maibock offer refreshing tastes that complement the local food culture. If you’re planning a trip to Portneuf or nearby Quebec areas, I highly recommend exploring these culinary gems. Bringing home farm-fresh produce, artisanal gelato, honey specialties, and craft beers not only supports local businesses but also enriches your food experience with authentic regional flavors.
