🥣 Buttermilk Brown Sugar Biscuits
Ingredients:
• 2 cups self-rising flour
• 1 tablespoon baking powder
• 2 tablespoons brown sugar
• ½ cup (1 stick) cold butter
• ¾ cup buttermilk (add a little more if dough is too dry)
• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for a light sweet aroma)
⸻
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with butter.
2. Mix dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour, baking powder, and brown sugar.
3. Cut in the butter:
Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients. Use a fork or your fingertips to work it in until the mixture looks crumbly, with pea-sized butter pieces. (This makes your biscuits flaky!)
4. Add wet ingredients:
Pour in the buttermilk and vanilla extract. Gently stir until just combined — don’t overmix or the biscuits will be tough. The dough should be slightly sticky.
5. Shape the dough:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat it out to about ¾ inch thick. Fold it over once or twice (for layers), then cut with a biscuit cutter or cup.
6. Bake:
Place the biscuits close together on your baking sheet (for softer sides) or spaced apart (for crispier edges).
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
7. Brush & serve:
Optional — brush the hot biscuits with a little melted butter for a glossy, soft finish.
