What helped me and others in healing from betrayal trauma was shifting focus from trying to analyze or control thoughts to learning practical nervous system regulation techniques. Deep, mindful breathing exercises combined with grounding practices helped calm the body. Gentle movement like yoga or walking also promoted a feeling of safety. Importantly, healing is not about pushing yourself harder or forcing memories to be processed quickly. It’s about allowing your body to feel safe again at its own pace. Offering yourself grace and patience, and seeking supportive connections—whether through therapy, support groups, or trusted friends—was crucial. Being heard and understood without judgment validated the trauma and eased isolation. If you’ve faced betrayal, know you are not alone or broken. Your nervous system’s reactions are valid signals that healing needs to happen through nurturing safety and support, not just willpower. Taking small steps to learn regulation skills and reconnect with your body’s sense of calm can gradually stop spirals and rebuild confidence and trust in yourself and others.
