Maks more food from food
Frugal living is all about being creative! ♻️ I hate wasting food, so I'm sharing some of my favorite ways to use up every single part of a fruit.
What's a food scrap you never throw away?
A great way to live more sustainably is by finding creative uses for food scraps you might normally toss away. For example, I ferment mango skins to make tangy mango vinegar, which can be diluted with water to create a refreshing and healthy soda. This not only reduces waste but also adds unique flavors to my homemade beverages. Apple cores are another versatile scrap I never throw away; I ferment them to create apple vinegar that’s perfect for dressings and baking. It’s amazing how these scraps, typically discarded, can be transformed into flavorful ingredients. Seeds from melons and cantaloupes can also be used in creative ways. I whip up a refreshing cantaloupe seed drink that’s both hydrating and nutritious. Similarly, pineapple skins don’t go to waste—I use them to prepare tepache, a traditional Mexican bubbly drink that’s delicious and gut-friendly. Watermelon rinds are often overlooked, but I turn them into a cucumber watermelon water that’s incredibly refreshing on hot days. By incorporating these simple practices into your routine, you not only minimize food waste but also enjoy homemade, eco-friendly drinks and condiments that are both fun and tasty. These small steps contribute greatly to sustainable living and make cooking more adventurous. What food scraps have you found creative uses for? Sharing these experiences can inspire others to maximize their food use while cutting down on waste.
