Crazy Train!
This was my first attempt at a makeup transition video. Clumsy but here it is.
After trying my hand at my very first makeup transition, I realized just how much fun – and how challenging – it can be! For ages, I'd been scrolling through TikTok and Lemon8, admiring all those seamless, magical transformations. I kept thinking, 'I could never do that!' But then I decided, why not start with something easy? That's what led to the video I shared. If you're like me and just starting out, the key word is *easy*. Don't try to go for a super complex, multi-look transition on your first try. Trust me, you'll get overwhelmed. Instead, focus on a simple 'before and after' or a quick outfit/makeup change that doesn't require intricate editing. I learned that the hard way! Here are a few tips I picked up that might help you create your own easy makeup transition: Plan Your Look (or Two!): Even for an easy transition, having a clear idea of your 'before' and 'after' is crucial. Are you just adding a swipe of lipstick and some eyeliner, or going from a 'no-makeup makeup' look to a soft glam? Define it! Lighting is Your Best Friend: Seriously, good lighting makes all the difference. I tried filming mine near a window during the day. Natural light is often the most flattering and easiest to work with. Avoid harsh shadows! Keep Your Camera Steady: A wobbly camera can make even the best transition look messy. If you don't have a tripod, prop your phone up against a stack of books or use a stable surface. Consistency in framing is key for that 'seamless' feel. Practice Your Move: The 'transition' part itself, like a hand swipe or a head toss, takes a bit of practice. Try it a few times without recording to get a feel for the timing. For my video, I found a simple hand-over-face worked best for a beginner. Simple Editing is Enough: You don't need fancy software. Most phone editing apps can do basic cuts. The goal is to cut precisely at the peak of your transition move. It's surprising how much practice this takes! I spent a whole WEEK just trying to get the cut right on my first attempt. Don't be afraid if your first few attempts feel a bit 'clumsy' – mine certainly did! The important thing is to have fun and experiment. Watching back my video, I already have ideas for what I'd do differently next time. Maybe a different music choice, or a slightly smoother hand gesture. It's all a learning process, and every easy makeup transition you try helps you get better. So, what easy transition will you attempt this WEEK?
