10K Steps A Day

First let me say I started this goal because I work remotely and would only get >5k steps a day. it was horrible!

It was stagnating my health and wellness goals (I wanted to lose weight and lower my cortisol) so I decided at the beginning of October I would prioritizing getting 10k steps a day.

1. Made it Easy

I have a walking pad and hop on that thing like nobodies business throughout the day.

2. I Play

After I pick up my kids-I run and play with them! It's an easy way to get those steps in.

3. I set reminders

My watch will tell me periodically throughout the day that I need to move my body AND that I still have health goals to reach. This motivates me to get moving

4. I do it my way

I don't worry about the speed, I worry about the steps. I workout every morning -so I hit what I need to there. However for my steps I solely focus on that!

Beyond the walking pad, which is a lifesaver, I've found a few other hacks that really boost my daily count without feeling like a chore. For instance, instead of just running after my kids at the park, I now see it as an opportunity for interval training! We play tag, have 'races' to the swings, or even just walk laps around the playground while they play. Every little bit truly adds up for a busy mom like us. Another game-changer for me, especially when you're working full-time and managing a business, is transforming mundane tasks into step opportunities. Need to make a phone call for your business? Walk around the house or yard while you talk. Waiting for pasta to boil? Do some high-knee marches in the kitchen. Even simple things like parking further away at the grocery store or taking the stairs instead of the elevator can add hundreds of steps without you even noticing. For those days when getting outside just isn't feasible, or if you don't have a walking pad, think about active chores. Cleaning the house vigorously, gardening, or even doing a quick dance session with your kids can get your heart rate up and those steps ticking. It's about reframing your mindset – every movement counts! I also found immense value in scheduling 'micro-walks' throughout my workday. A 5-minute stroll around the block during a coffee break, or a quick walk to pick up mail, can break up long periods of sitting and refresh your mind. These small bursts of activity not only contribute to your step goal but also help in maintaining focus and energy for your work. When I'm feeling overwhelmed by my business tasks, these short walks are my secret weapon for a mental reset. Don't forget the power of a family walk after dinner. It’s a fantastic way to connect with your children, get some fresh air, and rack up steps together. Even if it's just 15-20 minutes, it makes a significant difference over the week. You can even turn it into a fun scavenger hunt for the kids! Finally, don't underestimate the power of planning. Check the weather forecast each evening and plan accordingly. If rain is expected, brainstorm indoor ways to get steps in. If it's sunny, commit to an extra outdoor stroll. Remember, it's not about perfection, but consistency. Some days you might hit 12K, others 8K, but the overall trend of mindful movement is what truly matters for your health and well-being. Keeping track with your watch or a simple app can be a great motivator, too. You'll be surprised how quickly you adapt to this more active lifestyle and how much better you feel as a busy, working mom!
