WHY:

•makes them more likely to try new foods

•helps teach math, reading, science and fine motor skills

•Have fun with your kids

COOKING SKILLS BY AGE:

18 Months to 2 Years Old:

•Pour ingredients

•Mix

•Wash fruits and veggies Begin learning to cut with toddler safe knives

3-5 Years old:

•help measure ingredients

•use herb scissors to cut herbs

•kneed dough

•Begin learning to stir stuff on the stove using hand over hand

•Learn to crack an egg

(By preschool, most kids will be able to do anything that doesn't include heat, knives, or raw meat)

6-12

•peel veggies

•form patties

•Use appliances

•Chop fruits and veggies with supervison

By 12 or 13, most kids who have been taught to cook will be able to cook on their own.

Disclaimer, some kids will be ahead or behind these loose guidelines.
