I truly love working in the clinic. I love getting to greet the sickest and most unsure dogs with an abundance of safety, love, and patience. We keep records of all of the dogs when they first come in and throughout their stay. I get to read the opinions of every person who has handled that dog. On occasion, I read things like “not so nice, very aggressive, not great with people.” I love changing the staffs mind about that — more importantly I love to see change in the dog. These dogs have been hoarded and abandoned, dragged by cars, left on a chain for weeks, left behind, victims of violence, and more. I can’t ever blame a dog for what/how they communicate when that has been their life of human to dog communication. It’s hard to fall in love with these animals and then say goodbye — but them having a real loving home to live in, has always been the biggest win.
