What Emetophobia Recovery Actually Looks Like

You don’t need to be traumatized to heal.

You don’t need to “prove” how strong you are.

And you definitely don’t need to terrify yourself into recovery.

Most emetophobia sufferers aren’t afraid of vomiting —

they’re afraid of losing control, safety, and trust in their body.

Real recovery isn’t dramatic.

It’s subtle.

It’s empowering.

And it’s possible — even if nothing else has worked.

If you’re tired of surviving and ready to actually understand why your fear exists (and how to loosen its grip), that’s exactly what I break down inside my ebook.

This post is just the surface.

The clarity, tools, and relief are deeper. 💛

... Read moreFrom my own journey with emetophobia, I've found that recovery is less about battling fear head-on and more about reshaping how you relate to it. Healing doesn’t mean erasing nausea or fear completely; rather, it means they no longer dominate your thoughts or dictate your actions. I realized that pushing myself into exposure without feeling safe only worsened my anxiety. What truly helped was adopting a gradual, compassionate approach that respected my nervous system’s limits. Learning why my brain responded so intensely—because it perceived vomiting as a loss of control—allowed me to start feeling safe again in my body. I stopped chasing reassurance and hypervigilance, which were exhausting and unproductive. Instead, I practiced accepting uncertainty without letting it consume me. I also learned that it's okay to feel anxious without spiraling, by using mindful grounding techniques whenever anxiety spiked. This subtle shift gradually loosened the grip of emetophobia. Eating without negotiating or avoiding certain foods became a powerful step in reclaiming normalcy. It showed me that my fear didn’t have to control what or how I ate. If you’re struggling with emetophobia, know that recovery isn’t a dramatic event but a series of small, compassionate steps that build trust and safety in your body again. This process takes patience and kindness towards yourself—something I continue to remind myself daily.

most people think burnout means tired. for an adhd brain it's something else. it's not being able to start the easy thing. it's the unreplied texts piling up. it's the "what if i just quit" thought that scares you. it's the freeze when too many tiny choices stack up.

Things that actually help with AuDHD burnout (from an AuDHD therapist)
AuDHD burnout isn’t just being tired. It’s a full-system depletion that affects energy, emotions, sensory tolerance, and executive functioning all at once. And for many women, it builds slowly over months of pushing through, masking, and managing more than your nervous system was designed to hold.
