Let’s Talk About How We Do Things 🐾

I wanted to take a moment to clearly explain our process and what is included when one of our kittens goes home.

First, we require an application so we can get to know each family and ensure the kitten is the right fit. During this process, we discuss everything in detail and I always confirm that families have reviewed what is included with their kitten before moving forward.

Once approved, a contract is signed by both parties through Docusign. In the weeks leading up to go-home, I send multiple emails to each family with care information, reminders, and preparation details so everything is clearly understood and there is plenty of time to ask questions and schedule appointments. We also complete a go-home information form that includes care requirements, including that the kitten must be seen by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival.

All kittens receive a full veterinary exam through our clinic before leaving. For families outside of Tennessee/Kentucky, we additionally provide a health certificate for travel at no extra charge; something many breeders do charge for.

Each kitten goes home with:

• Recovery from Spay and Neuter

• Microchip

• Age-appropriate FVRCP vaccinations (3 rounds)

• Rabies vaccine

• Drontal deworming

• Revolution Plus coverage for 30 days

• A 30-day complimentary Trupanion insurance policy (coverage includes 90% after deductible, depending on plan activation)

• Folder with records

• A go-home goodie bag for both kitten and family

• And lifelong breeder support

When I say lifelong support, I mean ongoing communication, guidance, and honesty throughout the cat’s life by breeder and owner. However, that support is based on mutual responsibility and adherence to the terms outlined in the contract.

If a kitten is not seen by a licensed veterinarian within the required 72-hour window, or if insurance is not activated within the provided timeframe despite reminders, certain guarantees may no longer apply as stated in the signed agreement.

No breeder is perfect, and no situation always goes exactly as planned; these are living animals, and unexpected things can happen. That’s why clear communication, following the outlined steps, and staying in touch with your breeder matters so much.

My goal has always been to be transparent, supportive, and consistent, while also ensuring that agreements are understood and followed on both sides.

We love our kittens, I love my families, and I am always here to help and support when communication is open and respectful and the agreed-upon care steps are followed.

... Read moreAdopting a kitten is an exciting journey, and having a clear understanding of the process can make all the difference. From my personal experience working with breeders and raising cats, transparency and preparation are key to a successful transition. One crucial aspect is the initial application, which helps breeders match kittens with families that fit their needs and lifestyles. This step not only protects the kitten’s welfare but also sets realistic expectations for the buyer. When bringing a kitten home, knowing what health measures are included can ease any worries. For instance, comprehensive veterinary exams and up-to-date vaccinations form a strong foundation for your kitten’s health. Vaccines like FVRCP and rabies are essential for preventing common feline diseases. Regular deworming and parasite prevention, such as the 30-day Revolution Plus coverage, keep your kitten protected during those critical early stages. Microchipping is a game-changer for pet owners, significantly increasing the chances of reuniting with a lost pet. The addition of a 30-day complimentary pet insurance policy, such as Trupanion, provides peace of mind by helping with unexpected medical costs. From my experience, activating that insurance promptly within the recommended timeframe is vital to maintaining coverage and safeguarding your kitten’s health. Another detail I greatly appreciate is receiving a go-home goodie bag with essentials and helpful information. It’s a thoughtful touch that makes the transition easier for both kitten and owner. What truly stands out is lifelong breeder support. This ongoing relationship means having a trusted expert to turn to with questions or concerns about your cat’s care throughout their life. It builds confidence knowing that both parties share mutual responsibilities, including timely veterinary care. From coordinating necessary paperwork through secure platforms like Docusign to providing health certificates for travel, every step is designed to make adoption smooth and transparent. Clear communication and commitment to agreed care standards help prevent surprises, which is important since kittens are living beings that require specific attention. Overall, the commitment shown by breeders who prioritize transparency, thorough care, and continuous support enhances the experience for families welcoming a Highlander kitten into their homes. If you’re considering adoption, take the time to review each stage carefully and maintain open communication with your breeder. It’s the best way to ensure a healthy, happy start for your new companion and a positive lifelong relationship with your breeder.
