This years garden 😌

5/18 Edited to

... Read moreGardening this year has been a rewarding journey, especially with squash and cucumbers taking center stage. From my experience, starting seeds indoors a few weeks before the last frost date helped ensure strong seedlings ready to transplant outside. Squash requires plenty of space and sunshine, so I set aside a large, sunny spot in my garden bed and used organic compost to enrich the soil. Regular watering was crucial, but I made sure not to overwater to prevent root rot. With cucumbers, providing a trellis made a significant difference. Vertical growing not only saved space but also improved air circulation, reducing the risk of common issues like powdery mildew. I also found that consistent pruning of the lower leaves helped keep the plants healthy. Fertilizing every few weeks with a balanced organic fertilizer boosted growth and fruit production. One tip for both plants is to watch out for pests like squash bugs and cucumber beetles. I used natural pest control methods like neem oil sprays and handpicking pests early in the morning when they’re less active. Additionally, mulching around the plants helped retain moisture and kept weeds at bay. Overall, patience and attentive care paid off this season, resulting in a bountiful harvest. For anyone interested in gardening squash and cucumbers, I recommend embracing these strategies and tailoring them to your local climate and garden conditions for the best results.
