Betta fish
Freshwater betta fish 🐟
Having kept betta fish for several years, I’ve learned that these vibrant freshwater fish not only brighten up any aquarium but also require attentive care to stay healthy. One crucial aspect is their tank environment; bettas thrive best in warm water with temperatures ideally between 76°F and 82°F. Using a reliable heater and thermometer helps maintain this stable temperature. Additionally, bettas are labyrinth fish, meaning they can breathe air from the surface, so providing access to the water surface without obstruction is important. When setting up the tank, I found it helpful to include live or silk plants, which offer hiding spots and reduce stress. Feeding is another key factor. Bettas prefer protein-rich diets, so I use specially formulated betta pellets and occasionally supplement their meals with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or bloodworms. Overfeeding is a common mistake, so I stick to feeding them small amounts twice a day. Regular tank maintenance is essential, especially a weekly partial water change of about 25-30% to keep water quality high. I avoid cleaning the entire tank at once to preserve beneficial bacteria. A personal tip is to monitor your betta’s behavior and appearance daily. Changes in color, fin condition, or swimming patterns can signal health issues early, allowing prompt action. By combining proper tank setup, diet, and maintenance, my bettas have remained lively and striking, making the effort worthwhile for any fish enthusiast.
