... Read moreMany people find themselves drawn to behaviors or habits they know are not good for them. For example, the idea of a "trauma candy salad" perfectly captures the concept of mixing things we want but shouldn't have — a metaphor for addictive tendencies. In my personal experience, smoking cigarettes (not vaping) has been a difficult habit to resist despite understanding the health risks involved. It’s often intertwined with stress relief and social settings, making it a complex challenge to overcome. Road rage is another subtle yet common issue. Even when non-violent, the anger and frustration felt on the road can affect mental well-being and relationships with others. I’ve found that mindfulness and breathing exercises help manage these intense feelings, turning moments of irritation into opportunities for calm. Jealousy is a more emotional challenge. Many admit to feeling it but rarely talk about moving past it collectively. I believe embracing empathy and focusing on self-growth can ease that emotional burden. Surrounding oneself with musicians and artists, whose work revolves around passion and creativity, can inspire healthier outlets for emotions and energy. Ultimately, recognizing these "candies" that are harmful is the first step. Sharing personal stories and strategies not only improves self-awareness but also encourages a community approach to healthier living. Transformation isn't instantaneous but is achievable with small, consistent changes and support from others.
