Many eateries close between lunch and dinner hours in Korea, typically from around 3 PM to 5 PM, which caught me off guard initially. Utilizing this downtime for café visits, shopping, or photo opportunities helped me avoid hunger and discomfort. For transportation cards, I initially got overwhelmed deciding between T-money and the Climate Card. The T-money card, which uses pay-per-ride pricing, fits well if you plan to travel moderately each day. Conversely, the Climate Card offers unlimited rides within a set period, ideal for heavy transit users with planned routes. Evaluating my itinerary beforehand helped me save money and avoid purchasing unnecessary passes. Managing luggage in busy, hilly neighborhoods like Bukchon Anguk or Ikseon-dong can slow you down significantly. Using local luggage storage services allowed me to roam freely without strain, enabling me to explore charming alleyways and shops comfortably. Airport transport was another area I refined during my trip. Though the AREX Express is touted as the fastest option, it might not be the most convenient depending on hotel location. For example, if your accommodation is closer to Hongdae or Digital Media City, the All-stop airport train or airport limousine buses provided better connectivity and less hassle when carrying luggage. Lastly, I learned the importance of downloading Korean-specific translation apps, such as Papago, which helped immensely with menus, signs, and communication — more effective than relying solely on Google Translate. Overall, these little insights and adjustments can transform your Seoul trip from stressful to smooth and enjoyable. Preparing for queues, understanding local restaurant hours, choosing the right transit card, handling luggage efficiently, and selecting suitable airport transfers based on your hotel location are essential steps to making the most of your travel experience in Korea.
